Wedding Invites

Your invites are one of the most important elements of your wedding. They provide guests with valuable and crucial information from the date, response cards and directions. I would like to share some guidelines worth mentioning as you prepare for your special day.

1. Sending out invites: The rule of thumb is 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding. Allow some time for your guest to separate the date and make arrangements to attend. You can also send out a “save the date” invite 6-8 months in advance.

2. Selecting your RSVP date: Minimum of 3 to 4 weeks before your wedding day. Allow yourself time to get a final count so you can submit the numbers to the Venue or Caterer. This allows you plenty of time to begin working on a seating chart for the reception.

3. Who to invite: If you wish to only invite adults, please make it clear on the invitation. You can specifically make mention of who you’re inviting in the invitation and make a note that they should arrange to have a babysitter for their child (if they have one). You can tell them it’s an “adults only wedding” so there is no misunderstanding. If a guest isn’t married, it’s perfectly fine to invite only them. If you don’t mind paying for an additional guest, you can add “and Guest” to their invite.

4. Dress code: Nothing bothers me more than to see someone in jeans and sneakers at a high end catering facility where all of the other guest are appropriately dressed for the occasion. I’m pretty sure it’s embarrassing to them! Save them the embarrassment and include a dress code on the invite. Ex. “Black Tie Affair”, “Cocktail Attire”, “Casual Attire”, “No Jeans or sneakers”!

5. Should you include your Wedding Registry on the invite: No! You can have your immediate family and wedding party inform your other family members and friends. I’m pretty sure they’ll eventually ask. You can also include that information on your wedding website. With that said, yes! You should create one. There are wedding websites that have free sites for couples!

Well I hope this information helps ease the stress of planning and preparing for your big day! Here’s to a successful wedding!
