Because you say so

I came across a devotional that spoke to me some time ago and wanted to share a few things about it. The Bible says; “When Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon replied and told him “we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will” … When he did, they caught such a large number of fish that the net began to break … When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ feet, they were astonished at what they saw … Jesus said to them “don’t be afraid, from now on you will catch men.” So they left everything and followed Him!

The real test of our faith comes when nothing you’ve tried has worked! And I’m pretty sure we’ve tried and tried our own way many times and it hasn’t worked!!! Then God comes along and tells you to do something that stretches your faith to it’s limit. At that point we have two choices: give into your doubts and fears, or say like Peter said, “because you said so, I will”. This teaches us a few things …

  1. God uses the common to do the uncommon. So in your daily routine, look for God and don’t be surprised when He surprises you! God will show you that nothing would be impossible if you walk in obedience. He’s saying, you’ve tried it your way, now it’s my turn!
  2. He moves you out of the security of the shallow to the risk of the deep. The great catches and the great storms are both in the same sea. If you want one, you have to contend with the other! No risk, no reward!
  3. He involves you in one thing to teach you another. Christ plan for these men was to involve them in an even greater miracle: fishing for the lost. I’m pretty sure the season you’re in and lesson it has will prepare you and I for His greater plan and purpose! So I challenge you to say today “Lord, because your word says it, because you say so, I will!
