Music is one special aspect of your day you don’t want to overlook. Whether you dance or don’t, what you play at your wedding is a reflection of your style. So the music that is played is crucial and a great band or DJ can be the difference between a fun wedding and an unforgettable one. I would like to share 3 tips that I hope you find helpful when considering your music for your celebration.

  1. Weddings celebrations are a time for friends and family to enjoy and celebrate this wonderful occasion. You’re going to have guest with different music taste, so don’t expect to please everyone. What’s important is that both Bride & Groom are pleased with the selections and choices they’ve made for their celebration. It is recommended that you create and provide a playlist of your favorite songs weeks in advance so the DJ doesn’t have to scramble to get a song you request on the day of. Sticking to one genre of music is probably not a good idea either. You can also put together a list of “Do Not Play” songs or genres that you deem not suitable for your style of music or your guest. Don’t forget the “Must Play” songs that you want to hear as well. All of this is key in making your special day memorable.
  2. Please note that your wedding reception is not a nightclub. Volume control is important! Feel free to request volume control during certain parts of your celebration. Some of your guest may want to talk with other guest and they shouldn’t have to compete with the music that is playing in the background. Typically, music is played at a lower volume during cocktail hour and dinner. But do expect the volume to be turned up when it’s time to get everyone on the dance floor!
  3. Make sure your DJ / Band understands the importance of playing clean music during the reception. Remember that Grandma, Grandpa, your parents, your boss and small children are in attendance. You can leave the raunchy stuff for the after party if you’re having one. You should also leave the bedroom music for, well the honeymoon. You should also consider the song, lyrics and meaning for the occasion. You definitely don’t want to leave a bad distasteful impression on your guest.

Remember, that a DJ will have a world of music at his disposal with tons of variety and also typically cost less than a live band. If you have a small venue space, you should consider that when choosing your choice of DJ or Live Band. I hope you find this information helpful in preparing you for your celebration!
