Being rooted in Christ
I would like to share with you this month about the importance of being rooted! Being rooted is defined as being firmly established, which can refer to several things. To feel connected, belonging to a place, community, or oneself.
- Feeling stability and security, whether in the workplace or a family structure, or a community.
- Feeling grounded in one’s values and beliefs
Our beliefs and opinions are rooted in the credence attached to our faith walk. What that means is that our faith is rooted in Jesus Christ or at least should be rooted in Him. The Apostle Paul points out four different characteristics regarding walking out our faith in Colossians 2:6-7. Being rooted, being built up, being established, and being abounding in Him! Allow me to illustrate the importance of being rooted.
When we place a plant in a pot, it needs room to grow and expand as the roots expand.
A small pot can hinder a rooted plant’s growth by restricting root expansion, limiting nutrient and water intake, and potentially leading to root-bound conditions. Root-bound conditions occur when a plant’s roots become tightly packed and unable to grow further within their container, often causing stunted growth, nutrient deficiencies, and other issues. Here is an example of why a small pot can be problematic.
It Restricts Root Growth:
Roots need space to grow and explore, and a small pot confines them, leading to tangled or circular root systems, which can restrict further growth.
For the plant to continue to grow, it is necessary to remove it from its constricted environment and place it in a much larger pot or environment so it can grow to its full potential. It is the same with our walk in Christ; there comes a time when we must uproot ourselves from where we are so God can take us where He wants us to be, a place where we can flourish and grow in a deeply rooted relationship with him.
God told Abram in Genesis 12 to leave his country, his family, and his father’s house to a land that he had not seen. There was a promise behind his obedience. There is a promise behind our obedience to Him! Abram had roots in Haram and at the age of 75 was called to uproot himself and his family and go to a land he had not seen, where God was going to make a great nation out of his lineage. God had to take him out of his comfort zone to fulfill his prophetic destiny. God was going to replant him in a better space where growth would be exponential. It would require faith & trust to leave a place where he was comfortable to go somewhere he had not even seen.
That is how God operates, he will send you the word to move in faith, though you do not know how, though you do not see how, though you may not understand it, nevertheless step out in faith with a level of trust in Him. When we trust, it produces stability in our thought process, it provides emotional security, and a deeper level of intimacy with God. You are disrespecting yourself when you know you’ve been called to do greater things and remain stuck in your old ways of thinking. It’s time to change the pot! I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and begin to believe in bigger and better in all facets of your life.
